“The Client”

Lately when I’ve been vaguely referring to “the client” meeting for Lonely Octopus on LinkedIn, I’ve been cringing because 1) it sounds fake and sales-y and 2) it reminds me of a scene from cult classic, The Room, specifically one of the funniest bits of dialogue I’ve ever heard.

Tommy Wiseau’s character, Johnny, and his best friend Mark (played by Greg Sestero) are dining together, and it goes like this:

Mark: “How was work today?”
Johnny: “Oh, pretty good, we got a new client. At the bank. We make a lot of money.”
Mark: “What client?”
Johnny: “I cannot tell you, it’s confidential.”
Mark: “Oh come on, why not?”
Johnny: “No I can’t. Anyway, how’s your sex life?”

Scene from The Room, written, directed, and starring Tommy Wiseau

You’ll just have to watch the whole movie to understand.

Anyway, we had the client meeting this afternoon and we were able to get all of our questions answered. I feel like we’re better aligned on the expectations and overall vibe of the client. But I cannot tell you who it is. It’s confidential. πŸ˜‰

Now, we just have to go build the internal RAG AI search engine…!
